GETTING THERE

Cleveland is about 40 minutes south of Clarksdale. To get there, take U.S. 278 West/U.S. 61 South for about 33 miles.

INDIANOLA

Famed bluesman B. B. King was born in tiny Itta Bena, about 25 miles east of Indianola. The latter’s impressive B. B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center (400 2nd St., 662/887-9539, www.bbkingmuseum.org, noon-5pm Sun.-Mon., 10am-5pm Tues.-Sat. Apr.-Oct., noon-5pm Sun., 10am-5pm Tues.-Sat. Nov.-Mar., adults $15, seniors $12, students and children 5-7 $10, children 5 and younger free) chronicles the legend’s rise to fame. The galleries, located in an old cotton gin, cover the music of the Delta in the 1920s, Memphis in the 1950s, and beyond. There are high-tech recordings and videos, lots of artifacts, and a gift shop. The museum opened in 2008; when King died in 2015 he was buried here and a garden was planted in his honor.
